Your website is the focal point for all of your marketing efforts: It should broadcast your brand, showcase your expertise and engage your targeted visitors to connect, share, and return. In short, you should feel proud to broadcast that URL (that’s a web address, to those of us without the nerdy glasses)!
bytes & words has a solid history of developing engaging websites that are user-friendly, dynamic, and highly visual: They look great, work well, and get folks their information quickly. Our clients are nonprofits, professional services companies, start-ups, retail concerns, and restaurants.
bytes & words develops sites built on flexible content management systems (CMS), including Joomla and WordPress, to offer the widest range of possibilities to clients. Most clients want some control over their website, at some point, and a CMS with user-friendly editing tools offers this option. More importantly, CMS-based sites offer virtually unlimited expansion into any direction your digital marketing may take you. This means we get to say “yes, you can” more often without you needing to break the marketing piggy bank.
bytes & words‘ solutions are search-friendly by nature, from the code structure, to key terms placed in Google’s favorite places: We don’t just list zip codes for the robots to index. Many degrees of search optimization are available, as is ongoing advice about what we’ve seen work for others. Our wish for you is a lasting organic search ranking, one that doesn’t evaporate when you stop paying Google or SuperIndex R Us. We encourage adding Google Analytics to learn where your traffic is (or is not) coming from. And if your customers are on the move, we can help with a responsive, mobile website solution.

In 2006, bytes & words partnered with founder Kimberly Bell of SPEECH PATHways, a leading Maryland Speech Pathology Clinic, to kickstart marketing for the Clinic’s diverse therapy services and community programs. We first developed a corporate brand and applied it to several affiliated programs and then created a highly visual and user-friendly website, completely rewriting and redeveloping content. We integrated Constant Contact Email Marketing to get the word out about programs, classes and the philanthropic efforts and supported several phases of Facebook graphic redesign.
Through the years we have worked with SPEECH PATHways to focus digital and print marketing — including brochure and exhibit design — to help grow the business into various channels. In 2012, the Clinic moved to a much expanded facility in Westminster, Maryland, securing its place of prominence in the business community and the lives of Maryland kids and families.
bytes & words has contributed significant time since 2008 to the SPEECH PATHways Foundation, a nonprofit foundation that seeks to improve the lives of Carroll County kids with special needs.

In 2009, bytes & words partnered with founder Marie Noplock of The Maryland Therapy Network (TMTN), a Baltimore-area Speech Pathology Clinic and Job Service, to quickly and economically re-create their online presence. We built the new website with a simple template backed by the Joomla content management system and pumped up the color/branding to give it visual appeal. The new site highlights its dual mission of working with families and agencies along with placing skilled staff throughout the region.
From creating a user-friendly website, we went on to assist TMTN with its marketing efforts by developing an eye-catching, informative brochure and a tabletop exhibit. bytes & words continues to host the site and provides updates/advice as needed; in 2012 we optimized the site with key terms in partnership with TMTN’s marketing agency.

In 2006, the owner of LIBERATORE’S Ristorante & Catering — a Baltimore area family restaurant group with 6 locations — approached bytes & words with help for a website that was not functioning. We helped revive the site and provided them a quick graphic makeover (using existing site template code) to help the site function better as a marketing hub.
Over the years and through the recession, bytes & words has maintained the LIBERATORE’S website and email system, integrated a strong regular email marketing program with Constant Contact, and managed/integrated their official Facebook page. In 2011, we redesigned and expanded the LIBERATORE’S website with a content management system to more dynamically present information for all locations, each with their own menus, events, specials and marketing focus. In 2012 we incorporated OpenTable into their website, Facebook page and email marketing and developed a mobile version of the restaurant site. We continue to work closely with the LIBERATORE’S family and staff across locations to improve their organic search ranking and bring customers to their tables.

In 2008, bytes & words answered a call from the SJCAA to establish the first online presence for this nonprofit association and breathe new life into communications for its 2000+ membership as they prepared to celebrate their Bicentennial Reunion. We clarified branding to convey “200 Years of Women Learners,” explored their archives to develop a site map and engaging content, and designed their first website. With the addition of Constant Contact for ongoing Alumnae e-communications, the site was instrumental in publicizing the momentous 200-year reunion (which we were honored to attend).
In the past 5 years, we’ve worked with a succession of volunteers and management to improve SJCAA communications: Managing the website and email communications, adding/integrating Facebook, and designing the SJCAA’s flagship publication, The Valley Echo, for print and online delivery
In 2012, bytes & words worked with a new Communications Committee and Board to redevelop the website into an expanded, dynamic presence, built on a content management system. The new site — featuring prayer requests, article commenting, online donations and membership payments and photo galleries — has been very well-received. We continue to work with the SJCAA to develop avenues of communication to capture the memories and accomplishments of these women, who range in age from their 50s into the 90s.

In 2008, bytes & words began working with Maryland Speech-Language-Hearing Association (MSHA) to professionally brand the Association and revitalize marketing and communications to the statewide population of licensed Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists. Since then, we have worked closely with MSHA to engage members through the website, email communications and Facebook while reducing administrative costs.

The first and most lasting point of reference for your company or organization, your brand is the design basis for every piece of marketing collateral you’ll need: from letterhead and shirts, to email signature and brochure, website, social media or exhibit!
Although it may be tempting to let your “talented cousin” take a stab at it, you should take your brand design and development very seriously. A good brand design should:
bytes & words has designed many attractive and lasting brands for small- to medium-sized businesses (including start-ups) and nonprofits, and we can do the same for you.

Tri-fold, bi-fold, pamphlets and whatever you wish to leave behind: bytes & words designs them all with a focus on your brand and marketing strategy. Art Director Joseph McCormick creates visually attractive presentations out of your bare-bones content for professional results that customers are sure to want to take home and remember you by.

Through Social Media, any nonprofit, business or member association may reach out to existing customers and engage new ones by informally presenting their expertise and services. Such services as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest can be integrated into the marketing mix to position you as an expert, encourage sharing of information you’ve published among friends, and drive traffic (and sales) through your site.
bytes & words helps clients weigh carefully the decision to add a blog or social media to their marketing strategy, by considering your target customer demographics, current traffic, trends among similar industries, and personal tolerance for maintaining these extras.
We offer various levels of social media support:

bytes & words is an Accredited Gold Level Solution Provider for Constant Contact® — winners of FOUR All-Star Awards for relationship marketing!
We help clients engage with customers/members through secure, inviting and economical email communications, event marketing and dynamic social media and SaveLocal campaigns.

Designing for the high-quality large-format printing required for signage, displays, and exhibits is a specialized skill. With years of agency and exhibit house experience to draw on and current knowledge of print and display options, Joseph McCormick of bytes & words delivers the expertise needed for a stellar presence at any show.
From concept and display choice through to branded design and content development, printing, assembly and shipping, bytes & words helps you make a lasting professional impression on the exhibit floor.

Despite all that is digital, there are still some publications – magazines, newsletters, menus, magazine and program ads — that require a keen editorial vision and eye for design. bytes & words offers over 25 years of experience with print layout, graphic design and copywriting. With each job we offer options for print runs and printers according to your budget and timeline.
bytes & words can also suggest innovative measures to bring your publication to life online and save paper/print/postage costs. We’ve implemented online delivery of the Valley Echo magazine for the St. Joseph College Alumnae Association, through a PDF viewer that lets readers “page” easily through the online version, download, bookmark and print (see it in action).

Mollie McCormick at “bytes & words” did a fantastic job creating/designing my music/business website. I’m extremely pleased with her work and her creativity. Wonderful person to work with and very knowledgeable in her field. I’m sure you will be pleased to work with her too!
Yea!!! I’m THRILLED! As Steve Martin would say: ” I am somebody”! WOW!
Amazing! You make me sound like I know what I’m doing!
I hired Mollie as a contract writer/instructional designer for various e-Learning programs. Mollie took on each new project with enthusiasm. She diligently worked on writing well-written and thorough storyboards that exceeded expectations, and she managed the content development process with several very difficult clients, with ease….always keeping the learner at the center of the process.
Mollie has created & maintained our website for our restaurants for over four years. The results have been excellent. Her direct input towards news letters, promotions, regular updates has been the reason our website generates so much traffic & sales.
The new site looks great! Professionally done, and very easy to navigate through the sections.
Mollie is a talented ISD who worked well with an extremely difficult client. Mollie delivered great work, and was professional at all times.
It was a pleasure to work together with Mollie on the Carroll County Restaurant Week promotion. She went above and beyond our expectations for designing a new website, handling social media marketing on the Facebook page, and keeping all of the information on these sites current. Mollie is very thorough in everything she does and can be depended upon to get the job done. She is dedicated, methodical, and very capable.
Congratulations! It’s a girl! More than 2,000 SJC women, actually. Bravo to you both for your creativity, insight, and extraordinary patience with all of us. I was thrilled to receive the official launch of the SJCAA website and I know I speak for so many SJC alumnae in thanking you for your partnership in making this happen.
Finally had a minute to get into the [Valley Echo Online Publication] sent yesterday. Wonderful! I am convinced lots of alums will opt to have the VE go to their electronic mailboxes instead of their ‘real’ one. Great effort and great improvements! Thanks so much to you all!!
